What do you want? What do you need? With less than 50 days left until Fall officially begins, most of us are busy getting in one more vacation, hitting the beach or the pool, reading books, driving somewhere, and getting outside in the blazing light of Summer. But are we listening?
Have you noticed the sounds of Summer shifting? There’s a loud buzzing of cicadas in the afternoon, perhaps the hum of a lawnmower, or the soft chirp of morning birds at first light, even the sound of wind in the trees. Are we listening?
The less we DO, the more we hear.
With so many external forces coming at us each day (internet/cell phones, biking/driving, gardening, golf/tennis and other one-sided sports), even things we love to do become repetitive. Our bodies do not care what we do to move, but it does care how. Over time, our movement becomes subconscious and we do not realize we’ve gone off center. Are we listening? Do we even realize that our right foot forward all the time has caused our left low back pain, for instance.Recently we introduced Pilates mat to a runner’s group. It reminded me when we do the same thing over and over, those muscles involved in that motion know exactly what to do, but the rest of our body does not. Our body knows what do to to keep us in balance, so will compensate for faulty movement. This is clearly shown in the picture above.
Do we listen to our bodies only when there is pain?
My own mission this summer has been a daily practice of MAT work (yes, my mentor is now fainting). I don’t always feel like it, it’s hard, and takes time. Pilates connects me to myself, my breath and my intuition. What I found that when I ONLY did mat after the first week, that sensational aliveness of my core was harder to find. So I added in other things as well, waterskiing, paddle board, swimming, SILKS, strap mat, chair, reformer, Cadillac. We have a bright and happy studio space, ready to kick into full gear this Fall. Let us know if you have any special requests (we are definitely adding more Sunday classes and a kids’ class as well!) We are listening to you.
When the student is ready, the teacher appears. When the teacher is ready, the student appears. We are ready for YOU.
You will learn exactly how to listen to your body, your own movement patterns, and remember to breathe.
Joe Pilates had a mission:
“Concentrate on the correct movements
EACH TIME YOU EXERCISE,
lest you do them improperly
and thus lose all the vital benefits of their value.”
Do you want to learn HOW to move to get and stay out of pain? Do you want to get moving again? Do you need to slow down and listen to what your body is telling you? This amazing Pilates journey we are on gives us what we need, when we need it.
As long as we are listening.
TriPilates mission is to empower you to feel, know and do what it takes to improve the rest of your life. Sounds like a tall order, but ask any one of our students. They will tell you.
TriPilates private lessons and group classes teach you to balance your body, mind, and spirit.
“Not one man can do the first five of my exercises correctly,
how do you expect to have world peace?”
With all the chaos in our world today, Joe Pilates’ message is clear. Listen to yourself, take care of your self. By being fully present in the moment of doing Pilates, there’s peace, healing, and compassion for ourselves and for others around us.
